Bringing together scattered literature from a range of sources, Laser Spectroscopy and ItsApplications clearly elucidates the tools and concepts of this dynamic area, and providesextensive bibliographies for further guished experts in their respective fields discuss resonance photoionization, laser absorption,laser-induced breakdown, .

In this chapter, applications of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to the analysis of biological and medical samples are outlined. The range of samples includes calcified tissue materials (e.g. teeth, bones, sea shells), soft tissue materials (e.g. human skin, plant parts like leaves and wood), and – to a limited extent – bio. This book examines the spectroscopic detection of single atoms and explores the purification of industrial chemicals. Organized into seven chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the methods developed for laser detection of single atoms, including fluorescence, photoionization, photodeflection, and their combinations.

Spectroscopy / s p ɛ k ˈ t r ɒ s k ə p i / is the study of the interaction between matter and electromagnetic radiation (via electron spectroscopy, atomic spectroscopy, etc).

Historically, spectroscopy originated through the study of visible light dispersed according to its wavelength, by a the concept was expanded greatly to include any interaction with radiative.
